Top Fruits During Pregnancy
You may already know that nuts, eggs, bell peppers and many other veggies are beneficial to pregnant women. But did you know that there are so many fruits that also help mama and baby? Here are a few of our favorites:
Avocado – It’s a fruit! It’s also very high in folic acid which is crucial to a fetus in fighting birth defects. Try it in a salad, dip or even on toast for breakfast!
Lemon – Morning sickness and nausea is a top complaint of pregnancy. Lemons can help your digestion and flush out any toxins. Try it in a glass of water, a smoothie or make lemonade!
Strawberries – Really all berries in general at great because they are high in antioxidants which will help you fight off illnesses. Try it in your fiber cereal, smoothies or with greek yogurt for breakfast!
Grapes – They’re a great snack that is high in iron, folic acid and B vitamins. Try them frozen for a cool summer treat!
Apples- A good old-fashioned apple a day will indeed keep the doctor away! It will also help in constipation, immune strengthening and help protect your baby against eczema later. Apples are great as a healthy snack with peanut butter, or in a smoothie, or dehydrated.
Here’s a recipe for a super smoothie that is great for pregnant ladies that includes these powerful fruits. Enjoy!
1/2 a banana (preferably pre-sliced and frozen)
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/4 cup 100% apple juice
1/2- 1 cup water (depending on the consistency and preferred sweetness, you could sub for extra juice if you wish)
1 teaspoon of chia seeds (optional)
1/2-1 cup cup ice
Mix all ingredients in a blender until you reach desired consistency.
